The canals wind like watery snakes across the English countryside
The narrow boats once work horses now leisure craft
Wending their way across the country side
Marvels of engineering the locks using the power of water to life the boats, their crew and in times past heavy cargo over hill.

I’m back in the English midlands staying in the pretty canal town of stone.
Staying with friends
Getting the mighty breva II ready for chapter 3 of my European adventure.

We just watched a documentary and videos on locks (Eerie Canal, and UK: Bath, Bingley Five Rise, Caen) not all in the same documentary, but different ones online. My DH is independently curious about them as of recent and it is so coincidental that you posted this. I think Five Rise was my favorite to watch. You always have the coolest entries!
Thanks Marianne I think it’s very beautiful and in some ways simple engineering how locks can lift big loads over hills using the power of water. Bike is just about set up and I hit the road on Wednesday for the next adventure.
Wow! Lovely pictures. Great place 🙂
